"Where Are They Now?" [2013 Summer Internship Edition] featuring Landon Dowdy

I love this shot of +UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication student Landon Dowdy positioning herself for the best audio feed of Elliot Spitzer. That's what it takes to get the story. Do we have the next +maria bartiromo amoung us?

Landon Dowdy, '14
News Desk Intern, +CNBC

"I am in the central nervous system of all of the breaking news. It has been the most amazing hands on and exciting experience! I've gotten to follow many trials at the courthouse (such as the SAC case and Fabrice Tourre case), press events for Elliot Spitzer, interviewed sources for packages, created and anchored a video project for their website and was a part of their big investor conference Delivering Alpha. Couldn't ask for a better summer!"

Where Are They Now? [2013 Summer Internship Edition] featuring Janie Sircey

Today's intern highlight features a +UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication student in India!

+Janie Sircey '15
Intern, 2adpro Media Solutions, Chennai, India

"In my time working at 2adpro, I have created social media campaigns and assisted in designing ads for clients like Century 21 Department Stores and Macy's. I've had the opportunity to design and implement branding strategies and assist with brand management operations, but most importantly, I've been able to see my work go from idea to implementation. I will never forget the feeling of watching my work carry conversations with clients. Working directly with creative directors and clients has given me the inside scoop into the agency world, and I couldn't be more appreciative of the projects and experiences that I've been given."

Where Are They Now? [2013 Summer Internship Edition] HOA from NYC

Live from New York its…

Hopefully, I’ve upped my game from my last +Google+ #hangoutonair. For the second +UNC J-school Ambassadors "Where Are They Now? [2013 Summer Internship Edition] HOA," I cut down on the “umm’s” and had all of my panelists name plates set to the correct Carolina blue Hex triplet (#56A0D3).

Am I getting close to the big leagues?

Emma Galli - What Are They Doing Now? [Summer Internship Edition] featuring Emma Galli

+UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication each summer picks a team of students "to investigate the political, economic, and scientific tensions behind US energy through advanced reporting to engage citizens and inspire informed decision-making." Known as Powering a Nation the team recently released their film for this year, "Over Water Under Fire!

Listen to +Emma Galli story:

Emma Galli '13, Graphic design sequence
Co-editor in Chief, Interface Designer, Motion Graphic Artist, +Powering a Nation

"Powering A Nation gave me the opportunity to collaborate with a team of extremely talented journalists to work on a project focused on experimentation. We wanted to produce something that would make people want to stop and think about our content and created an absolutely stunning 20-minute interactive experience combining video, motion graphics, and written pieces. Our goal this year was to integrate each medium into one multimedia piece and I am proud to say that we accomplished this, and more. I’ve never been part of such a cohesive team and am excited to take what I learned over the past 8-weeks and apply it to more creative story telling in the future."

Where Are They Now? [2013 Summer Internship Edition] featuring Chris Helton

+Chris Helton , '15
Employee Communications and Change Management Intern, Duke Energy

"As a part of my job, I'm working with the Employee Communications team to create and disseminate relevant content for our near 30,000 employees. There have been so many highlights! A few weeks ago I flew down to one of Duke Energy's plants in Florida with company executives. I was able to field calls from the media during a nuclear plant emergency drill. Best of all probably, my boss (a J-School alum) gave me the chance to write an online summary about the appointment of our new CEO!"
